I have known about the Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit for awhile now but can’t say I was a fan until I heard their latest album The Lion’s Roar. Now I can’t stop listening to their music and The Lion’s Roar will surely be among my favorites of 2012, which is why I am crowning First Aid Kit as the Folkers of the Week.
Valtari, Sigur Rós’ first album in four years, is a collection of moodily gorgeous, slow-paced sound-washes. With the notable and remarkable exception of “Varúð,” which builds to a crashing climax in the spirit of the band’s recent classic “Festival,” little here deviates from the absorbing minor-key gloom of albums like 2002’s ( ).
It’s been a long time coming, but the news can finally be made known. John is going to release a new EP titled Letur-Lefr this summer. He’s also created artwork for it and more information will be announced soon. This is real news, folks!
While it may look like a throwaway image, the included photo believe it or not, is the cover art for the Dirty Projector’s upcoming new album Swing Lo Magellan. There’s clearly a story about what led to this particular shot, and frontman Dave Longstreth will undoubtedly be forced to talk about it in every interview he’ll have from now on. Folk Premiere: Passion Pit released their first single from the forthcoming album Gossamer titled “Talk a Walk”
Last week, Florence and the Machine debuted the band’s epic new track “Breath of Life,” a song composed to accompany the upcoming motion picture Snow White and the Huntsman. This morning a behind-the-scenes video surfaced exploring the making of the single, which features the work of a 110-piece orchestra.
