Folker of the Week: Iron & Wine

Mother Falcon is an orchestral band who bring the folk. It is great to see a unique band in the indie scene, which is why I have them as the Folkers of the Week. Check out this video of them live.

The Oh Hello’s are a sibling folk duo that are one of my favorite music discoveries of 2013 thus far. They are worth checking out, which is why they have been named Folker of the Week.

Last episode of Eat.Sleep.Folk. was a special women’s edition. It wouldn’t have been a complete without playing my favorite female vocalist Zooey Deschanel. Conveniently She & Him released a brand new song, which made my decision easy to make She & Him the Folker of the Week. Listen to the new song below. Can’t wait for their new record, Volume 3, to come out in May.
Local Natives new album, Hummingbird, is one my favorite albums of the year so far. I have not stopped playing the record since its release date and it is still amazing with every listen. This made it easy to select Local Natives as the first Folker of the Week for 2013.

Michael Kiwanuka brings soul and blues to the folk landscape. Kiwanuka was the musical guest on Conan awhile back and caught my attention and I finally got around to checking out his music. Chalk Kiwanuka up to another great musical find in 2012 and the Folker of the Week.

Another great music discovery this year has be Field Report. Check out their music if you haven’t already, I recommend starting with the song “I Am Not Waiting Anymore.” Once you listen you will realize why Field Report is the Folker of the Week.

I discovered Cold Specks on a sampler this year and has since become one of my favorite music discoveries of the year. Thus I have deemed Cold Specks the Folker of the Week.

I discovered The Lumineers earlier this year from a free download. Now they are getting plenty of radio playtime and positioned to be the next big thing and they just happen to be the Folker of the Week.

The Avett Brothers released their new album, The Carpenter, a few weeks ago and it has already become one of my favorite albums of the year. This is why it was an easy decision to make The Avett Brothers the Folker of the Week.

Last night I was able to check out The Walkmen live at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. It was my second time seeing the band live and it was great to see them again. I had been anticipating the show all week and it did not disappoint. This made my decision easy to make The Walkmen the Folkers of the Week.

I have known about the Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit for awhile now but can’t say I was a fan until I heard their latest album The Lion’s Roar. Now I can’t stop listening to their music and The Lion’s Roar will surely be among my favorites of 2012, which is why I am crowning First Aid Kit as the Folkers of the Week.

M. Ward released his new solo album, A Wasteland Companion, last week and is already one of my favorite releases of 2012, which is plenty of reason why M. Ward is the Folker of the Week.

I was able to check out Milo Greene play at the Constellation Room last weekend and they were fantastic. They put on a great live show, performing a couple covers by my favorite artists Sufjan Stevens and Wilco. It was a great night and I can’t wait for Milo Greene’s debut album. Milo Greene is going to get quite popular.

I remember seeing Delta Spirit open for The Walkmen several years ago and I have been a fan ever since. I played their song Trashcan on repeat for several months and I still love the song to this day. Their new album keeps up the same vibe, which is why they are the Folker of the Week.
